In the allegory of Plato’s Cave people are chained so they are incapable of movement and forced to watch shadows projected on a cave wall by shapes which move in front of a fire. The allegory can be likened to a projector in a modern cinema. Unfortunately these images are taken as reality and the prisoners try to justify their existence just as we do today. Sri Aurobindo and other great avatars try to convince us that our thoughts are not real. They tell us we are the screen not the images on the screen which, like our thoughts, constantly change. Only that which doesn’t change is real. Yet those who escape from the cave and follow these teachings are considered by the main stream to be crazy. Such is the fate of Seers. Plato’s cave is an allegory for the Matrix control system now. Those who escape the Matrix are the classic heroes of today.
